I love Butternut squash as a nutrient-dense vegetable that is rich in vitamins and fiber. It’s a great alternative to potatoes when I’m cutting down on carbs or incorporating more vegetables into my diet.
Air Fryer Roasted Butternut Squash: Cubed vs. French Fry Shape
When it comes to preparing butternut squash for the air fryer, I usually cut it into 1-inch cubes or french fry shapes. The shape you cut it into can make a difference in both texture and cooking time. Cubed butternut squash is great for roasting or air frying because it allows for even cooking and caramelization on all sides. Simply peel and dice the squash into 1-inch bite-sized pieces, toss with olive oil and your favorite seasonings, then cook in the air fryer until tender and golden brown.

On the other hand, cutting your butternut squash into french fry shapes can result in a different texture and flavor profile. The long, thin strips of squash cook quickly in the air fryer, becoming crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. This shape is perfect for dipping into sauces or enjoying as a snack on its own. To achieve this shape, simply slice your peeled squash lengthwise into thin strips, toss with oil and seasonings, then air fry until crispy.
Both cubed and french fry-shaped butternut squash are delicious options for cooking in the air fryer. Cubed squash is great for serving as a side dish or adding to salads, while french fry-shaped squash makes a tasty appetizer or snack. May I also recommend Breaded Butternut Squash Fries? Where the Panko coating delivers an addictive crispiness that perfectly complements the tender, velvety squash, creating a satisfying contrast with every bite.
