Notes
Storage Tips
First of all, make sure that the dip is stored in an airtight container. If there is too much air exposure, the dip may start to spoil. Secondly, refrigerate the dip as soon as possible after making it. Homemade one will last in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Pro Tip: label the dip with the date that it was made. This will help you to keep track of how long it has been in the fridge and ensure that you don't eat it after it has expired.Lastly, my favorite tip. The Blue Cheese crumbles can be stored in the freezer. Yay! So you can keep the actual crumbled blue cheese freezer fresh and use a portion of it as needed. No defrosting is required. Because there are crumbles, they easily get separated from the rest of the crumbled mass.
Variation and Substitutions
Greek Yogurt Swap. Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter, tangier version. Adds protein and keeps it creamy without the extra calories.
Avocado Blue Cheese. Blend in half an avocado for extra creaminess and a slight earthy taste. Great for a thicker dip-style dressing.
Herbed Blue Cheese Dressing. Add fresh herbs like dill, chives, or parsley for a bright, herby twist that complements the rich blue cheese flavor.
Honey Blue Cheese. Add a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup to bring out the creamy, sweet-savory notes—a great way to soften the boldness of blue cheese.
Dairy-Free Option. Use coconut or cashew yogurt in place of sour cream, and almond or oat milk instead of buttermilk. This keeps it creamy and tangy for dairy-free diets.
Spicy Blue Cheese Dressing. Stir in a bit of hot sauce, cayenne, or sriracha for a spicy kick. Perfect for pairing with wings or adding some heat to salads.
Mustard-Infused Blue Cheese. Add a teaspoon of Dijon or Whole Grain Mustard. Especially good for sandwiches or burger toppings.
Each variation offers a unique twist while keeping the delicious essence of blue cheese dressing intact. Enjoy experimenting!
