Instructions

1. Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

2. Melt the cheese

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine mozzarella and cream cheese. Microwave for about 40-50 seconds, stirring halfway through, until melted and smooth.

Tip: Stir well to fully incorporate the cheeses—you want a stretchy, unified dough base.

3. Mix the dough

Add almond flour, baking powder, and optional spices to the melted cheese mixture. Stir to combine slightly, then add the egg. Mix well using a spatula or your hands until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, chill in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.

4. Shape your bagels

Divide the dough into 4–6 equal parts (depending on your preferred size). Roll each into a rope and form a ring, pressing the ends together to seal. You can also use a bagel or donut pan to shape your low-carb bagels more easily—it helps them hold a perfect round form and gives you that classic bagel look without the fuss!

Tips for Perfect Low-carb Bagels

  1. Use superfine almond flour – It creates a smoother, lighter texture.
  2. Work quickly with the dough – It’s easier to handle while warm.
  3. Chill if sticky – A few minutes in the fridge makes shaping easier.
  4. Try different toppings – Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or shredded cheese.
  5. Storage – Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for longer.

Pre-slice: Slice the bagels before freezing so they’re ready to pop straight into the toaster or air fryer—no need to thaw or struggle with cutting frozen bagels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these bagels keto-friendly?
Yes! These bagels are made with almond flour and cheese, making them low in carbs and high in fat—perfect for keto.

Can I use coconut flour instead of almond flour?
Coconut flour isn’t a 1:1 substitute for almond flour because it’s much more absorbent. If you want to use coconut flour, you’ll need to adjust the amount significantly—usually about 1/4 to 1/3 the amount of almond flour—and possibly add an extra egg to maintain the dough’s structure. The texture will be a bit different, but it can still work!

Can I toast these bagels?
Absolutely! Slice and toast them just like regular bagels. They crisp up beautifully.

How many net carbs per bagel?
This depends on your ingredients and size, but typically each bagel has around 3–5 net carbs.

Can I make these bagels in the Air Fryer?

To make these low-carb bagels in the air fryer, follow these steps:

  1. After shaping the dough into bagels, preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper.
  3. Place the bagels in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t touch to allow for even cooking.
  4. Air fry the bagels for 8-10 minutes or until they’re golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Let them cool for a few minutes before slicing and enjoying.

This method gives the bagels a crisp, golden exterior while keeping them soft and fluffy on the inside—just like a traditional bagel!

Notes

Recipe notes:

1. Leftovers (if any left) can be refrigerated for up to a week. Freezing works great too! Just slice the bagels before freezing, and when you’re ready to enjoy, pop them in the toaster or air fryer for about a minute.
2. If you have a nut allergy, you can substitute for Gluten-free baking flour instead, or CarbQuick baking mix. Some people have also had success using unflavored protein powder instead of almond flour—worth experimenting if you’re curious!
3. If you don’t have a microwave, melting ingredients on stove top will work too.
4. Try these bagels as bun or sandwich option – works amazing!

    1. HI Krista, I was able to test the recipe with vegan mozzarella cheese made by Daya. Yes, you can also sub the cream cheese for vegan version and follow the rest of instructions. You should be fine. Please let me know if success….Good luck

  1. Made these last night…it was Uh-Mazing!!! Kids and hubby LOVED it!! Still in ketosis, this just make my low carb lifestyle 10xs easier to commit to. Thank you for posting another great recipe!

  2. I’m not sure how you came up with your macros. When I plugged the ingredients into my recipe calculator, I came up with 233 calories, 8.3 total carbs, 6.9 net carbs, 15.9 grams of fat and 13 gram of protein per bagel (1 recipe making 6 bagels). I look forward to splurging though! 🙂

      1. Hi Irina, I used the recipe calculator in the carb manager app
Irina, I just tried your calculator and came up with the same information as you did. I don’t understand why there is such a huge discrepancy between the two calculators. I scanned my ingredients into carb manager, so I thought it was pretty accurate. Well, my bagels came out great. I made it into a batch of 8 instead of 6 to lower the net carbs a little.

        1. HI Sue, Thanks for getting back to me…
Yes, I recalculated again, but came to a similar nutrition, just slightly more because I used 2 cups of Mozzarella, instead of one and half.
I have not used the carb manager, but will try another calculator by spark people , so we can compare. I will let you know what it says for accuracy, but after having a bagel I feel it’s still pretty light and not worth 233 cal as from carb manager, what did you think?

          1. The problem is you are getting the wrong calories for the almond flour. A cup of almond flour has 680 calories!

  3. The nutrition information on this is very wrong! You should really double check your recipe before posting this. If you follow your recipe the actual nutrition information would be as follows:
Serving Size 1 Bagel, Servings per recipe 6

    Calories 225
    Total Fat 18g
    Saturated Fat 5g
    Total Carbs 7g
    Dietary Fiber 2g
    Sugars 2g
    Protein 12g

    1. I already recalculated it several times using different programs, still coming with same numbers… what app did you use to calculate?

  4. To those wondering about the macros and nutrition for this recipe… a lot of the ingredients can have varying macros and carb counts. Mozzarella cheese, depending on the fat/milk content. Almond flour depending on if it is blanched and/or organic or not, will have different carb counts. Cream cheese depending on the fat content and especially the brand can fluctuate greatly in carb counts. Even a single egg, same size, different brand, can be as far as 4 carbs different! Please take this into consideration and understand that the recipe, overall, is very low carb and probably an excellent substitute to an ordinary Everything Bagel. Look closely at nutrition labels before you call out the blogger for how wrong she might have been. I really do appreciate your post and look forward to making your version of these bagels!

  5. So good! But….I wish I would’ve read the comments first. Once I entered the amazing little babies into my food app, I was very disappointed how off the nutritional info is. 234 calories when i’m expecting 75 was upsetting, not to mention the carb count. I’ll still be making these but with a bit more caution.

    1. Seems like food apps have some discrepancies… few readers already provided different information. The carb content should be accurate. I calculated it via multiple sources and manually… I’m going to recalculate calories, but should not be more than 200

  6. Followed your recipe to a T! Came out amazing! I couldn’t be happier. Thank you very much! Oh I used the donut pan,. They definitely come out perfectly round and beautiful. Looks just like a real bagel.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it… oh I’m definitely getting the donut pan since I saw a lot of follow up pictures are gorgeous. My bagels look rather flat or they been run over by car multiple times ?

  7. Do you have an alternative to almond flour…I’m very allergic to tree nuts…but these sound amazing otherwise

    1. Regular Or gluten free flour would be a good substitute.
For low carb, you can substitute for a protein powder or carbquick baking mix

  8. yeah, I calculated by hand and I got – per bagel:
    291 calories
    23 fat
    8 sat fat
    69 chol
    366 sodium
    6.3 carb
    2 fib
    .8 sugar
    20.5 pro

    1. Thank you so much for calculating manually. I also updated the nutrition facts label, so now it is pretty accurate!

  9. Ok I think I messed up some where… i used gluten flour mix so I think baking power was already in the mix.. i had this in a jar so i was not sure if it was a complet baking mix or just flour….welll now i know?. I came out with bagel cookie rings not at all what I had wanted…sooo I will try agaiN…THIS time i will use the almond flour.

    1. You’re welcome! Yes! Couple of week in the refrigerator or you can also freeze these.
If freezing slice it in half ahead of time, then toast for a minute.
      I hope you like them.

  10. I an making this now. I did the nutrition facts on this as well and it has over 14 carbs not 4. So maybe you should revise that

  11. Omg! These were SO GOOD! I made a double batch and am so glad I did. They are perfect for that “missing the bread” feeling. Even my 12-yr old daughter liked them. And this is a girl that eats the Thomas’ cinnamon swirl bagels ALL the time. Which I may try the cinnamon added to them with a sweetener for that taste! Thank so much for the recipe! I tried the ones with just eggs and cheese, which I like, however, they don’t have the bread like texture that these have. Will definitely be making these again, they are pretty easy.

    1. HI Jackie, You’re very welcome!
Thank you for your cheerful comment. I’m so glad you and you 12-year old enjoyed these. I agree with you – these are perfect for that “Missing the bread” feeling. This dough is amazing for pizza crust and put all your favorite stuff on it. Definitely try that too

  12. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! Finally, a recipe that will replace traditional bread that tastes DELICIOUS!!!!! Even my 8 yr old that is Gluten Free loved this bagel!! I can’t wait to try this with different herbs and spices!! Thanks again!!!

  13. This is the BEST bread recipe I have found so far for the Keto diet!
Thanks! I’ve used it for several different bread items.

  14. Made these tonight and they were amazing!! I’ve been looking for a bread substitute since I started Keto and I finally found it!!! Thank you so much for the recipe-avocado toast here I come?!!

  15. So so yummy! I added some ranch powder to the dough and then some garlic salt with the everything seasoning on top. These were very quick to make and delicious!

  16. Oh my gosh! Absolutely delicious!? I should have doubled the recipe. I will definitely be making these over and over

    1. So glad you enjoyed it. I had no problem freezing them if I had extra… just slice it in half ahead of time… enjoy!

    1. I tried this recipe using the dairy alternative products from the company named “Daiya” not only their products taste delicious, but work well with this recipe… give Daiya a try

      1. Can l use all purpose flour instead of almond flour? I have a couple of family members allergic to all kinds of nuts.

        1. Great question! While all-purpose flour isn’t low carb or keto-friendly, it can be used if you’re just looking for a nut-free version and don’t mind the carbs. For a low-carb nut-free alternative, try:

✅ Sunflower seed flour – closest texture to almond flour
✅ Pumpkin seed flour – another great nut-free, keto-friendly option
✅ Coconut flour – can work too, but you’ll need much less and extra moisture

Let me know how they turn out!

  17. Hi, I am confused with your nutritional information. The print out says the calories are 1; and the chart says @223 calories. Which info is correct? Thanks

  18. The bagels were awesome! I made 8 bagels -6 in the doughnut pan and 2 on parchment paper, I do prefer them made free hand.. I placed turkey sausage and an egg on the bagel I was in heaven! Thank you for satisfying my cravings. You rock!!!

  19. Best low carb bagel recipe ever! I have tried several different recipes that are fair to awful. I only had 1 cup of mozzarella so added 1/2 cup of jack cheese. Sprinkled “Everything But the Bagel”seasoning on them, froze the dough for about 15 minutes because I’m impatient, and used a silicone bagel pan. Easy peasey, and really excellent, even by itself. Thanks!.

  20. One part of this says 75 calories per bagel and another says 200 something. What is the exact calorie and carb count? If I made a sandwich would it be considered 2 servings?

  21. I was out of cream cheese, but wanted these soooo badly! I had some Laughing Cow garlic and herb wedges so I used 3 of those. They turned out great!

  22. I made them exactly as written and I have to say that this is my all time favorite keto-type bread. These are AMAZING bagels!! Thank you so much for the recipe :))

  23. So yummy! I made these yesterday! They really satisfy the bagel craving – they are rich so you don’t need to eat much! Thanks so much!

  24. Wow. These best keto low carb bagels look is a pure combination of taste, I love healthy food. thanks, Irina

  25. Your bagels look delicious. My dough would not hold together and was very crumbly. Not sure what I did wrong. 🙁

  26. amazing….so happy I found this recipe.. I used gluten free one to one flour and they turned out great…thanks!!!!!

  27. This is amazing! I’ve never found a good keto friendly bagel recipe before, but now I finally have! I added some Italian herbs into mine, and have made 3 batches this week! Thank you!

  28. My nutritional info was significantly different than yours. I had to split my bagels into 8 parts just to keep it reasonable. Even so, each bagel ended up being 366 cals and having over 12g of carbs. I used cheddar instead of mozzarella but that shouldn’t make such a big difference. Not sure what happened but these are not as low carb as I’d been hoping.

  29. I made these this morning! Soo yummy! I topped the bagel with an over easy egg and slice of bacon for a delicious breakfast sandwich! I’m sure your calculations are quite accurate on the carb count, as per the comments I saw you checked and rechecked your calculations several times. I really appreciate your attention to detail! However I know that calories/carbs can vary quite a bit depending on what ingredients I use. So ultimately it is my responsibility to know/count the carbs and calories I am consuming. Thanks again and please keep posting recipes!

    1. I appreciate your thoughts! So glad you loved it… yes I did check the carb count multiple times using multiple sources

  30. These are delicious! I brush them with butter and mixed garlic Just before they are done baking and serve them as breadsticks.

  31. Very easy – good for beginners . One tip is to put the everything bagel seasoning in the bowl after all the bagels are formed. Press one side of the bagel in seasoning until you have the amount you want. Flip to have season side up and put on baking sheet. It reduces the excess seasoning from burning in the pan ?

  32. I can’t thank you enough! I made mine with nondairy mozzarella cheese and nondairy cream cheese and it was still fantastic!

  33. I love this recipe and make it often. I add a little salt to the dough and do not do the toppings. To me it is a,cross between bagel and English muffin. I roll mone out with small hole in middle and actually these often cook more as a,flat circle I like toasted with cream cheese or jelly and butter or for a small sandwich

    1. I love what you are describing and I love them too with jelly and butter or cream cheese.
      Glad you enjoyed it!
      Thanks for your comment!

  34. Hello Irena, I know a lot of people back in 2918 made comments or asked for clarification on the nutrition facts.

I am confused because at the foot of the recipe you show the Carbs at 1.8g and yet in the one you show from Spark, it comes up to 4.6g, which to me sounds reasonable, I can’t understand where the 1.8g comes from. Can you clarify this for me please.
    Thanks

    1. Hi Monique.
Thanks for your email. The post has been checked and updated.. The correct information is 4.6.
      Thanks so much for checking.
